If you've built your own kernel, then my guess would be that there's a
mismatch between your raidtools and kernel raid software. Try using a
kernel rpm from ftp://duke.eburg.com/pub/linux/redhat-6.x-mycontrib/
Those kernels are built with the same raid code as the default Red Hat
kernel.
