Backup Recomendations

I have a very small network

1 server and 2 Workstations 

Not sure the best way to go about this so I would appreciate some
recommendations on backing up the server from the workstation w/ a scsi tape
drive. Can it be done w/ tar or should I use a program like BRU?? Trying to get
off cheap but don't want to do it at the expense of loosing data.
