Does anyone else have an IBM ThinkPad 1472 (I think that's the model...I
haven't found anything that explicitly identifies it
as such) running Redhat (or any other linux)? Mine is a Celeron
366 with ESS Solo 1 sound. I have installed RH 6.1 on it and
all is well except for sound. Sndconfig identifies it properly
as an ESS Solo 1 but when it comes to play the test wav file,
I can BARELY hear it if I max out the volume dial on the laptop.
I have tried setting the sound settings in KDE to max volume but
this doesn't work either.

I started out with the RH default kernel-2.2.5 but yesterday I
compiled a new kernel-2.2.14 on it and in the sound section...
there was an ESS Solo 1 option available but it was greyed out (using
xmenuconfig). I do have the module and it is installed
but I just cannot hear the sound.

What does it take to get sound working on this thing?
