Most (many??) old Gateway 486 systems came with Micronics motherboards.
These tend to have a model number on the board somewhere hear the expansion
slot furthest from the power supply. when I've been working on one or another
of these systems I've been able to find information (jumper settings, at
least) on both Gateway and Micronics sites. Even if it is not a Micronics
board, it should be possible to find it on Gateway.com, though you may need
to dig. I haven't been there for a while now, but I seem to recall a place
for legacy or obsolete system information was where I needed to look.
