Leave the text setting where it's most comfortable, then, in X, pick out
a 'theme' that gives you the best viewing color/brightness levels.
Assuming you're using Gnome, pick settings, desktop, theme selector.
Find one that is nice and bright enough. There are several noted as LCD,
settings which I would imagine to be optimal. Enjoy! While in text mode,
as root, type SuperProbe to reveal how much video memory you have. You
might be able to run higher color resolutions than you are now, as well.
