Visual problems with gnome/Kde text display?

Hi,

    I have been having some problems after some hours using the computer
with both gnome/kde regatding the fonts display. (My eyes get really tired).
    Therefore I would like to know if there is any other way, aside from ttf
and anti-aliasing (not supporter yet) to improve the fonts display.
