I'd install the new drive as /dev/hdb, then partition it and use
dump/restore to get the files over to the new drive. I'd recommend this
over dd as this will validate the filesystem and files as the copy them,
if you use dd you will get an exact copy along with possible errors.
Better to know up front.
After the copy is done, shutdown, switch the drives and bring up in single
user to check that everything is kosher.
