Umm, I truly doubt you'll 'damage' your machine by starting X- if you
fear, just have a hand on the power cord...
As for jumpers, most boards *have* a jumper onboard that disables the
internal card. My FIC board does, my old pentium board does, my old old
hp vectra 486 sx 25 mhz does.
That said... grab your manual and look for how to disable, or, crack the
case and look for the jumper. It'll prolly be below the proc chip between
it and the first PCI/ISA slot. If history serves... saying something like
'vid' or an equally obscure name.
Good luck :) (of course, the tech might actually have known what he was
doing... but if the Bios don't turn it on/off... then the mobo must,
AFAIK)
