The latest modutils-2.3.9-x will not load sound modules on my RH 6.1 box. Dropping back to the stock modutils allows loading sound modules. The --showconfig switch for the 2.3.9 versions revealed the problem: it is looking for sound modules in /usr/lib/modules/sound rather than /usr/lib/modules/x/sound.
