PHP functionality

I installed a stock RH6.1. However, when I embed php code it does not seem
to work, it does not get processed.
In the body of some html code I simply put in:
<?
print("This is stuff"); 
?>

Curious:
does the default config. user loadable apache modules, if so hwo do I go
about adding in php and mysql support?
