I've
seen this problem before. It's caused by the GPM (console mouse 'driver')
service. This might sound weird but next time you boot up the computer
press a key on the keyboard every 5 seconds. Once the login prompt shows
up you should be able to login. Once logged in as root disable the
GPM service from starting up.
Try
that.
