Brad,
From your message, I get the impression that the name server works
from other machines on the network, but not from the name server? If
so, check /etc/resolver.conf and /etc/host.conf to make sure you are
set up to use the name server on that machine.
If you can't use the name server from any machine on the network,
what does your /etc/named.conf look like. Did you remember to let
named know you updated it's config file? What happens when you do
a nslookup for a host on the local net?
