I have been learning a great deal from the list on many topics, but am
looking for general information to help me learn more about the operating
system in rather than how to fix specific problems. My hope is that I will
better understand the system and the problems I encounter so I can fix them
myself or at least know where to begin.
A few months ago a couple of people started a conversation about the DHCP
client and server implementations on Linux vs. Windows. I found this
conversation interesting and learned quite a bit from it. What I would like
to do is find out exactly how linux starts by starting a dialog with those
who understand the process. For example, What is the first step in booting
the OS, what is the first script that runs, what does it do and what scripts
does it run in turn. I know the scripts in /etc/rc.d/init.d are run
according to the symbolic links in the respective run levels, but what
starts this process?
Is this a conversation that others would be interested in?
Can anyone briefly describe how this process begins and know where we/I can
find information to start learning more about this process?
Thanks,
Chad Skinner
