and their family of web fonts is simply great.
it was the first specific design for the new medium
with all those nice things like Xheight, hinting and
seriffing that takes into account CRT vs paper viewing.
It took the guy 2 years to create Verdana and Georgia.
Matthew Carter is the designers name.
As always, by giving those fonts away, MSFT is doing both a
service and a disservice to the web community. But the fonts are
great. Who can afford to pay handsomely to the top phontographer
and give it away. hard to compete. hence, no real competition.
We tend to prsonify evil; there always teams of talented individuals
behind those Microsofts, Apples, etc. whilst we focus on mediocrities
like Jobs, Gates who are great promoters.
leave them alone and take the best out the pile.
