I'm running Linux with USWest over a DSL connection. No problem at all,
at least if you use the Cisco 675 router to connect to the Internet. I
ignore if the other (cheaper) routers work fine with Linux or not,
although I'm pretty certain I can get an answer for you since some of my
friends do technical support for them. In any case, even though the Cisco
675 is sort of expensive, it is definitely well worth it. It is more
stable, flexible, and it truly acts as a router so you can have more fun
and learn more about Cisco products.

By the way, the way they configure the whole thing is that your Cisco 675
obtains an IP address from their servers using PPP, and if you want to you
can connect the router to a hub and then connect multiple computers to the
hub. Your computers will be doing NAT, and will end up with private IPs
in the 10.0.0.0 range by default, although you can always change the
configuration.

Finally, keep in mind that they do not offer any technical support for
Linux though. You can run it, and even have a server on it if you want
to, but they will not provide any technical support for it.
