Thanks.  Tried your suggestion with no success...configure still trips when
searching for xpm.h.  I Also tried CFLAGS ="$CFLAGS /usr/X11R6/include".
Now it complains:

checking whether the C compiler (gcc /usr/X11R6/include ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot
create executables

                gcc probably isn't looking in the right place...
                Try
                CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -I/usr/X11R6/include"

                Alternatively, just get the RPM from
                http://people.redhat.com/bero/experimental
