RE Hal Burgiss : http://feenix.eyep.net/xstuff/xfs.html
a very goodpage with lots of hints
all focused on 6.0 thru 6.2 rhat users
I am still in rhat 5.2 so the specific instructions therein
probably dont really apply to me, but I have some peculiar responses
re xfs in my 5.2 system that maybe Hal or someone can answer.
briefly, I am using
XFree86-xfs-3.3.5-1.5.x
XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-1.5.x, ...etc,etc
recently updated from rhat site.
my bootup in rhat5.2 says something like (too fast to catch it all)
...xfs nice.... xfs not found
but it doesnt stop the boot up
and I can use startx ok
using ps to check on xfs shows nothing
[byers@byers byers]$ ps ax | grep xfs
[byers@byers byers]$
But, as per the instructions in Burgiss site to also check by:
[byers@byers byers]$ /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs status
xfs (pid 3281
3284
3286) is running...
[byers@byers byers]$
so the ps command says xfs not running
and this seems consistent with that bootup error on xfs
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs status
yet the /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs status says xfs _is_ running
--I havent the foggiest idea why 3 pids showing
More generally,
I dont grok the rltn between xfs supposed to be shown by 'ps xfs'
and the xfs shown by '/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs status'
any explanation appreciated
Jack
