:Amen! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'd have to say
:linuxconf *is* getting better, but I still prefer to edit my config files

I like editing the files by hand as well, especially in the beginning. I
have been told that I am a bit masochistic for liking it this way, but
I'll explain why: I get a better understanding of what is going on if I
have to do it the "hard" way. A good parallel can be seen in mathematics
and HTML coding. Remember when the teacher would not let you use the
calculator, but made you instead write out all the work by hand? I feel
that you gain a greater understanding this way. The same applies to HTML
coding. I have seen so many people that use WYSIWYG editors that have no
idea what is going on behind the scenes. Then, when something is not
happening like they would like, they have to ask "What the %$#*& is going
on?" I tell them "Look at the source" and to them it is useless because
they have no idea what it means. I have never seen an WYSIWYG written
page that did not have to be edited a bit by hand to at least clean up the
code.
