I don't know if you have solved your problem with Memory and lilo but I have
something for you to try as I have had a similiar experience about a year
ago with RH 4.2. I had just added some extra Ram and my post said I had 146.
Well I adjusted my append statement as you have to read 146 but after
running lilo and rebooting I received a kernel panic and ended up rebooting
with floppy. My solution was to reduce the amount of memory by 2 meg to 144
and it finally saw it on the next reboot. So maybe try reducing in 2 meg
increments till the machine boots and sees your added memory. Of course
remember to run lilo after each edit.  It may not work but it's worth a shot
if you have not found a solution already.
