Hi there:

Sorry I don't have time to check the archives on this but I'm under the gun
right now. Anyway, here's my problem:

I've recently purchased a VALinux 420 (RH Linux 6.2) and will be running it
within an NIS domain (served by a Solaris box). Previously I have set up
several RH machines in this manner (Dell installed workstations w/RH 6.0)
and older PCs on which I installed RH (5.1) myself. Now I've gone through
and set up all the networking following the procedures I used for these
other machines but it still isn't working.

Basically what happens is that ypbind tries to launch itself before it
reads domainname:

ypbind: domainname not set - aborting
S17ypbind: ypbind startup failed

I believe I've set domainname in all of the places where it's supposed to
be, but it still isn't getting it upon reboot.

I've added "/bin/domainname ..." to /etc/rc.d/rc.local but, of course, this
gets read long after S17ypbind tries to do its thing. After rebooting, I
can fire up ypbind manually fine and then login as a regular user who does
not have an account on the local machine ... so I know ypbind works.

There's got to be an easy fix for this but I haven't found it.

If you've got any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks.

Rick.
