Did you try "make" and "make modules" again? I know I'm not much help,
but I can definitely tell you the problem is not limited to Red Hat. I
had a similar problem recently when I removed my Red Hat installation and
put Caldera instead. For some weird reason, the box still reported the
old kernel version... that I had under Red Hat! It makes me wonder if
perhaps lilo doesn't get written to the MBR correctly. Why don't you try
going over lilo.conf and then running lilo again? What do you get when
you enter "uname -r" at the prompt?
