I finally got it to install.  I made a subsequent post saying that I
actually had the GW set to 192.168.1.1 (rather than the same IP of the
workstation).

Here is how I got it to work:
1.  Yanked out the NIC
2.  Installed from a boot disk w/ the boot: linux updates option
3.  Used the final anaconda updates image
4.  Did a "custom" graphical install from the cd (as opposed to network)
5.  let it finish
6.  powered down
7.  Installed the NIC
8.  Let RH detect the nic (the netgear 310-tx one)
9.  Set up the nic when it prompted me
10. everything was hunky dory.


I didn't try to install without the NIC, directly from the CD (with no
updates).  That might still work-
The problem seems to be with the scripts and the network card combo.
