from the command line, use mc (midnight commander) and browse to the rpm,
hit enter on the file just like it was a directory and is should "open" it
into a virtual filesystem.  I belive you can extract a file from it by
tabbing into the other window and browsing (or whatever the correct verb
is:-) to where you want it, tab back over to the rpm vfs and press f5 to
copy it.  you can also install or upgrade right from there by seleting the
install or upgrade script.   Very cool.

>From X window/ gnome on my rh6.2 box I can use the file manager(gmc for
gnome midnight commander, btw) and right click on the rpm file and select
explore, and the rpm should "open" there.  Also very cool in a gui sort of
way.
