This is a VERY good point.
I've discovered the hard way that there seem to be several
radically different versions of pump. The version of pump that came
with RedHat 6.0 doesn't even use /etc/pump.conf (I think I got that
right) and doesn't have near the options. The pump that came with
6.2 almost looks like someone took dhcpcd changed the name and then
changed the parameters for all the dhcpcd options. What seems more
likely is that they did a feature for feature reimplimentation of
all the dhcpcd features in pump. Earlier versions of pump are seriously
brain damaged, crippled, and just flat out broken, especially on cable
systems. The latest version seems to have all the features that dhcpcd
has and does seem to behave on cable systems much nicer.
Sooo... If you are talking about pump, you have to ask (or answer)
WHICH PUMP? Different versions almost seem like different programs. Make
sure you know what you are talking about.
Note... Right now, dhcpcd still seems to have one feature that
I seriously need and pump doesn't seem to have. It dumps all its lease
information into a known file (/etc/dhcpc/dhcpcd-${IFACE}.info) which
can be parsed by other scripts and compared with previous values. It's
even in a convention form that can be "sourced" from a script to set
environment variables. If the newer versions of pump support something
similar, I haven't found it yet.
