Nope.  Based on a completely different code base.  There are some
superficial similarities thanks to Be porting much of the GNU software.

If you mean by this that it is not open source, then yes, that
is true.

That is an interesting question.  BeOS was designed for multimedia
use from the very beginning.  I think Linux had different goals.
