I was in a similar situation last week. What I did was install Windows
ME in a 6 GB 'C' partition. I then installed RH 7 into an adjacent
region with separate partitions for /boot, /, /usr/local, and
/usr/people. This put the /boot partition completely below the 1024
cylinder mark. LILO was in the MBR. When this was stable, I added a
final partition for the windows 'D ' drive. Worked fine, but a word to
the wise: my WinME did NOT LIKE working with partitions created by disk
druid. It would not boot. When I created the Linux partitions with
Partition Magic it worked fine. I did not try fdisk, but likely it
would work as well.
