dip also works well in a pinch. Used to use this all the time before ppp
for dialup.
dip -t
DIP> port /dev/ttySx
you may want to explore the parity, databits, stopbits, and speed options
there is online help - "help" and a good manpage
DIP> term
now you're connected - do your thing and do a CTRL-] to get back to the DIP
prompt
DIP>quit
