Well after going through all that and rereading your post John it is apparent
that there are some changes to hwclock between the RH6.0 and the RH6.2 machines
I have. For instance, the hwclock manpage I quoted was from the RH6.0 and
I noticed that there is not even a --localtime option in it. I apologize for
any confusion I may have caused and will go read the new one now.

FWIW -

on my RH6.2 laptop

bhughes@bretdell_linux bhughes]$ hwclock --version
hwclock 2.4c/util-linux-2.10f

and from the 6.0 server
[root@compaq2 /etc]# hwclock --version
hwclock 2.4c/util-linux 2.9n

It looks like the newer version is going to make more sense to use and mybye I
won't get quite the headache that I did trying to understand what was happening
the first time I waded in to this stuff.

Again my apologies for RWOR (responding without research) or even apparently
reading your message very well.

With the list so slow I decided not to wait for my orig. response to reply to

Bret
