Setting fonts size's

Hi

Does the Gnome Fonts picker set the fonts size for the menues 
and or the Global fonts used on ones desktop, I have set my
desktop to 1280x1024 and need to enlarge the fonts a bit

Or is there a way to enlarge the fonts please?
