The normal things displayed are:
Loading Linux ....followed by a sequence of dots
Uncompressing Linux
..boot messages..
The place it fails (for me) is when printing out the sequence of dots,
and the number of dots printed out before failure appears to be
completely random. If it gets to the "Uncompressing Linux" message, then
the boot always completes normally. I really have not investigated what
is going on during that sequence of dots. Though I think, since the
kernel is not yet uncompressed, that no logging is done (and dmesg gets
overwritten by the successful boot - it looks normal).
