I am afraid you are out of luck. There are no Linux drivers that I know
of for the Motorola SM56, and there are unlikely to be any anytime soon.

There are only a few internal modems that work with Linux. Look for an
internal modem that claims Linux compatibility on the outside of the box
(Actiontec makes some), or use an external modem. Or better yet, get DSL
or cable :-)
