BIOS is basically inaccessible from a fully protected mode environment
like Linux (unless it's shadowed). That's what I've always known.. correct
me if I'm wrong :)
The CPU speed, for instance, will change over the time the system is
running. My old Pentium 586 120MHz would start at around 120.001MHz and
then creep up to 120.004 MHz over about 10 hours (which is expected from a
semiconductor).
Have you compiled a kernel specifically for that machine or are you using
an out-of-the-box version? I remember when I got this box running for the
first time, the RH included kernel gave me a BogoMIPS of about 500 (which
was incorrect since starting with about Pentium II's, the bogomips became
double the CPU speed). After recompiling the kernel, it started reading
about 1000 like it should (I have a PIII 500MHz CPU).
I dunno if any of what I just went on about helps.. I just got home from
work and I need my nightly dose of Q3F :)
