I believe kernel 2.2.18 has the emu10k1 driver available. Just enable
sound support and then select to build the emu10k1 driver as a module.
You do not need to select anything else in the sound section of the
compile configuration. Then in /etc/modules.conf (or /etc/conf.modules
depending on the age of your modutils package...I would get the latest
available) add the following line:

alias sound emu10k1

and everytime a call is made to the sound driver, it will be
automatically loaded. I have a SBPCI 512 and it uses the emu10k1. Try it.
