It should be on the installaton cd.  If you did not install the developers
tools during your install or subsequent upgrades, the you will likely have more
than make missing.  FWIW make is packages in the make rpm.  You will also want
to look for the compiler, gcc or egcs I think it is egcs on 6.2 (anyone?)  I am
trying to think what else  I have hade to install but am drawing a blmk,  maybe
patch seems like I was missing the assembler too.  Of course you will need the
development libs of what ever your are compling.  There are people on this list
that know a lot about this stuff.  I can usually muddle through it with there
help.

If this is the problem it might be a good idea to install the deveoper stuff on
your next install (assumming you have the hard drive space)  I makes things a
WHOLE lot easier a couple of months later when you want to compile something or
rebuild an rpm.
