Joe, I am by no means even an astute user of sendmail but IIRC the newer
versions have a different (more secure) configuration.  I would look in the
var/log/maillog for any messages.  I suspect it has to do with allowing
relaying from the hosts in your network.

BTW the IMAP will be for reading mail and sendmail for sendiing it.  It was
not clear from your post that you made that distinction.  I believe that
sendmail serves a role in delivering mailto your mailbox though so if it is
hosed you probably won't get any mail either now that I think about it.

www.moongroup.com has a maillist list with serachable archives that may be of
some use.
