Well, I have not played with win4lin, but I use VMware. VMware
completely seperates the running of windows from the rest of your Linux
system. It runs the "guest operating system" in what they call a
vertual machine. (It will run other operating systems besides Windows.)
Depending on how you set up the disk accessing, it cal also set things
up so that the changes you make when running windows are not written to
disk. This can be handy when you what to check out the strange
attachment you got with your e-mail. Also, if you use the default
setup, where your Windows file system is actualy a file on the hard
drive, you can do things like make a copy of this file, and restore it
after you mess up your windows setup. The only problem with this is you
are limmited to 2G disk size for now. You also loose some performance
because of this.
>From what I understand about win4lin, you don't get as much of a
performance loss, but you do not get as conplete seperation. And os
corse, you don't get the ability to run other OSs as a window on your
Linux box.
