Emember to get the updated kernel (and of course, 7 is to be
recommended over 6.2)

Depends on your needs, pocketbook etc. If you want/need a laptop or
SMP, you don't really have an alternative. For a standalone
workstation, an AMD should be just fine - I just bought one myself.
