Although you have installed sawfish, it is not running, nor is any 
other window manager.  

You can use gnome control center to select a window manager, and start 
it up (you can get to the gnome control center throught the "foot" menu 
on the panel (look under "settings"), or by typing "gnomecc" in a 
terminal window).  You might also be able to start sawfish by typing 
"sawfish &" in a terminal window.
