Greetings all,

Came across an interesting problem when I ran "/sbin/shutdown -r 0" on one
of my 6.2 servers. I had just compiled a new custom kernel ( 2.2.17-14 )
and wanted to reboot to put it in place. Shutdown went fine, but it hung
after the usual

"loading Linux..............."
Uncompressing the kernel, ok

Obviously not a LILO problem and it's not the new kernel either because it
*cold* booted just fine. I let it boot, the new kernel came up ok and I
ran "/sbin/shutdown -r 0" again to see what would happen. It hung again so
I was forced to cold boot. I'm thinking I may have some RAM going bad
since a cold boot would completely clear the RAM - does this seem likely or
should I look elsewhere? I see nothing in /var/log/dmesg or
/var/log/messages that's helpful.

If RAM seems the likely culprit, can someone recommend a RAM checker that I
can run while the server is in operation? I'll probably run Memtest86 as
well but if a RAM tester that runs while the server is running is available
I'd like to start with that.

Thanks!

-Eric
