What do your permissions look like for the file? Should
be -rw-r--r--
chmod 644 inetd.conf to get it back if that is the problem.

Subject: Root read only access to inetd.conf
Hi,
I have a very strange problem: on a RH 6.2 box I can
not edit the inetd.conf file as root.
I can not mv, rm or chowm it, either.
Could someone give me a hint please?
Thank you.
