Start PUtty, and configure it to use ssh to connect to your Linux box.
It defaults to using telnet.  After you have it set up, save the
configuration, and you can create a shortcur that gives putty the config
file on the command line.  This will let you connect to the Linux box
with just a double click.  After you get this working correctly, you can
move on to using a plublic/private key pair to connect without needing
to type a password for the Linux box.  (If you do not set a password on
the private key, you can log in without typing any password...)
