i knew that. :-)  i've done a fair bit of shell programming, in the
bourne and korn shell, and a little bash as well.  i've *never* seen
anything resembling an i/o ]] construct.  i just checked the o'reilly
book, "learning the bash shell," 2nd ed., which covers bash 2.0, and
there is *nothing* about this construct in the chapter on i/o
redirection.  ergo, i'm convinced it's a typo of some kind.
