By default, sendmail does not accept network connections. I believe this is
documented in the release notes on disk 1. Basically, you can comment out the
DAEMON_OPTIONS line in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and generate a new sendmail.cf
file with m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf
Restart sendmail, and that should take care of it.
