Umm must of missed the tape question, but I'm using a Seagate SCSI 4mm DAT
tape which I use to perform tars and dumps to under RH 7.1. You should not
have to do any configuration as far as I remember. After the machine comes
up, it will be referenced as /dev/st0. Note the no-rewind is referenced as
/dev/nst0. Some commands that I use for example:
tar -cvf /dev/st0 /home # to backup up the /home partition via tar
dump 0uf /dev/nst0 /dev/sda0 # dump the /dev/sda0 unto the tape without
rewinding.

hope this helps

Subject: 7.1 not finding new hardware

I never got any responses to my scsi tape question but maybe someone can
answer this for me. During boot up when Linux checks for new hardware its
supposed to go into a configuration screen when it finds something. I put a
scsi tape drive in and when it got to checking for new hardware it gave me
the ok and kept going. Is this normal when dealing with scsi tape drives or
should it have tried to configure it?

Thanks for any help you can give,

Chris Rowe
