Only open up the ports to the servers you want to talk to, however, or use a stateful firewall. > Petr Jerabek wrote: > >THANX A LOT > > > >L> Try this in you CRON tab file > > > >L> 30 */6 * * * root /usr/sbin/ntpdate -u time-a.nist.gov > >L> updates every 6 hours and even reports to /var/spool/mail/root > >L> it works fo me! Uh... Try and find a nice stratum 2 or stratum 3 server unless you are acting as a stratum 2 for a large network behind you. The stratum 1 servers DON'T need everyone's individual workstation trying to sync to them. I run two stratum 2 servers with well over a thousand workstations behind them. The stratum 1s I sync to {tick,tock,tycho}.usno.navy.mil only see my two servers. They don't need to see the screaming hords that I deal with and keep coralled. :-/ I was GOING TO refer you over to www.ntp.org for the list of time servers where you can find some stratum 2 servers but it seems that someone has foo'ed their DNS and www.ntp.org is currently aliased to maccarony.ntp.org which is aliased to www.ntp.org. Doh! Maybe the wakeup call I just sent over to the webmaster will help them fix it. > >L> Mike > > > >L> -----Original Message----- > >L> From: Edward Dekkers [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > >L> Sent: Monday, 3 December 2001 21:54 > >L> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > >L> Subject: Re: Time syncing > > > > > >>>I need to manage automatics time syncing (GMT +1).
