You'll need to patch/upgrade/recompile (*) your kernel and your e2fsprogs
but that should be all. There is an ext3 patch for 2.2.19 avilable from...

        ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/sct/ext3/

... called ext3-0.0.7a.tar.gz. This is slightly older but perfectly
servicable. I beleive the ext3 aware e2fsprogs packages start at 1.20 but
if you're going to upgrade you might as well go to the latest 1.25. I just
downloaded the src.rpm from 7.2 rawhide at ...

        ftp://rawhide.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide/SRPMS/SRPMS/

... and recompiled it on my system. Once you've got an ext3 aware kernel
and new enough e2fs tools installed you can just do...

        tune2fs -j /dev/hdX

... and change the matching entry in /etc/fstab to ext3 and Robert's a bloke
married to your mother's sister.

* Easier said than done I know. Naturally you shoudl read the README from
the ext3 tarball but if you've never patched or compiled kernel before you
should prolly check out the kernel HOWTO....
