Inserted a very old 3ccfe574BT PCMCIA ethernet card into my newly
installed RedHat 7.2 laptop and heard the customary 2 beeps, the
green light on the network card appeared... and all seemed well.

However, I then used Gnome's Programs->System->NetworkConfiguration
tool and tried to add an ethernet device... the 3ccfe574BT was not
even listed there. Should it be ? Trying to use any other 3com device
listed there results in an expected "The Ethernet card could not be
initialized".

In short, some symptoms point to the the 3Com 574 being recognized
whilst others show that it is not :

1. Ifconfig only shows the local loopback interface.

2. The eth0 network script has not been created in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts.

3. /var/lib/pcmcia/stab contains :

   Socket 0: 3com 572/574 Fast Ethernet
   0 network 3c574_cs 0 eth0
   Socket 1: empty

4. lsmod reports :

   3c574_cs 0 (unused)
   ds 2 [3c574_cs]
   yenta_socket 2
   pcmcia_core 0 [3c574_cs ds yenta_socket]

5. the last lines in /var/log/messages (I've cut out the 'localhost' and
date columns) :

Any ideas why this might be happening ?

Thank you,
