Are you using a default kernel? In that case both should be supported.

You also have to execute "service iptables stop", otherwise the service will
be running until the next reinit or reboot. And what about ipchains? Is that
enabled? If not, enable it under "System Services" and start ipchains with
"service ipchains start".
