Sound good. I think I'll take your advice, go the postfix route, and "read a fine manual".
It would be a lot easier if there was a template or sample sendmail.conf with decent descriptions of at least the most important variables. Heck, I've done it before, but the memory isn't so good these days ... I liken Unix/Linux help to American roadsigns - really useful if you already know where you're going ! The only reason I like graphical tools is that they usually have context sensitive help which describes the functionality of each parameter.
