Thanks Statux. Using aumix provided a way for me to control the volume at will. :) I am sorry if I left out an important detail: I am trying to play mp3s in the console. All sounds are OK in KDE. However, the -g option doesn't work. Sometimes, things don't work and it can be without reason. :)
